Irrigation Service Technician


The basic function of the Service Technician is to under the direction of both the Service Manager and the Manager of Operations/ Construction; provide effective leadership and direction on specific AWS work sites. It is the responsibility of the Service Technician to ensure that all customer deadlines are met and time is utilized to a maximum efficiency. The Service Technician ensures that there is compliance with all company policies Provincial Legislation and procedures, with particular attention being given to safety issues and MOE issues. The Service Technician must possess the highest level of integrity and demonstrate unquestionable and positive moral and ethical traits in all activities. These traits must be able to pass any reasonable level of scrutiny inside or outside of the company.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent experience
LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION: Required; Valid Drive G Drivers License
EXPERIENCE: Required; One to Two years experience working on an Irrigation construction crew/ Service or equivalent.  

Own Tools/Equipment: CSA approved Steel-toed safety boots
Work Site Environment: Outdoors, Wet/damp, Hot, Cool
Salary: To be negotiated
Here are a few but not limiting to, skills, knowledge and duties referring to this position:

  1. Must be capable of formulating an action plan to logically, efficiently and effectively complete daily work schedules within specified deadlines.
  2. Must have excellent people skills, to be able to interface and coach to attain the maximum capabilities of all site personnel.
  3. Must have excellent communication skills to allow for an effective information exchange upward and downward within the organization. Accept responsibility for ensuring that communication is complete.
  4. Must be able to read and understand blueprints.
  5. Must be able to interpret blue prints to determine the most cost effective methods of completing a project.
  6. Working knowledge of Electrical, Hydraulic and Mechanical Troubleshooting
  7. Able to operate a wide range of equipment.

Here are a few but not limiting to, duties and responsibilities for this position:

  1. Communicate regularly with the Service Manager and the Operations/ Construction Manager to provide site status informing them of any existing or anticipated challenges related to current conditions
  2. Perform maintenance on irrigation systems as scheduled by service scheduler or requested by customer. To include, but not limited to: programming/ replacing timers; repairing broken lines, wires, heads, and valves; troubleshooting; spring start-up; fall shut down (winterization).
  3. Preparing and inspecting equipment necessary for the next days work when possible. Notify the Service Manager/ Operations/ Construction Manager of any equipment needing repair before retiring for the day.
  4. Provide customers with any relating information that could benefit their system, including products and services that are offered by AWS.
  5. Provide maintenance on all crew equipment as outlined by the Operations/ Construction Manager Equipment should be cleaned daily if required.
  6. Reporting crew status (efficiency, attitude, problems) on an ongoing basis to the Service Manager/ Operations/ Construction Manager
